Patta and Chitta

Also known as: patta, chitta

Patta is the Tamil Nadu revenue record naming the registered holder of a land parcel, and Chitta records its classification and extent.

The two were merged into a single record in Tamil Nadu's digitised system, obtained through TNREGINET and the revenue department portal. Patta transfer follows registration of a sale and is the Tamil Nadu equivalent of mutation. As elsewhere in India, these are revenue records and do not by themselves establish title.
