Succession Certificate
A succession certificate is a civil-court order authorising the holder to receive debts and securities belonging to a deceased person who died without a will.
It does not deal with immovable property, which is a common misunderstanding. Where immovable property passes on an intestacy, the heirs take by operation of personal law and the record is updated by mutation supported by a legal heir certificate; a succession certificate is neither required nor sufficient for that purpose.
